Piercing Care Information
Never handle a new piercing with dirty hands. Wash your hands and finger tips well.
Avoid introducing foreign body fluid to the affected area. (sweat, blood, saliva, etc.)
Do not swim or submerge in chlorinated, lake, river, or stream water for at least 4-weeks.
Use Bacitracin-zinc ointment 3-days only on the piercing area. Avoid all body sprays until healed.
New piercing secrete a gooey, sticky, fluid called lymph. This fluid will dry and crust-up on your jewelry. Salt solution soaking and cleaning with anti-bacterial soap twice-daily will reduce this.
Do not remove jewelry until well after the piercing is healed.
A healed piercing is a permanent hole so long as the jewelry is in place. The absence of the jewelry will cause the hole to close up.
Reinsertion of jewelry must be done carefully with lubrication to avoid discomfort.
NO ALCOHOL OR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE WHATSOEVER
SALT WATER IS THE BEST HEALER
MULTI-VITAMINS ARE GREAT TOO
Tongue, Lip, Labret
Eat ice for the first week to help reduce swelling.
Use regular Listerine or regular Equate mouthwash diluted with 75% water.
Rinse at least every 4-hours or after eating or smoking.
Minimize smoking which prolongs the healing process.
Do not use Listerine for more than 3 days after your piercing.
Dissolve 1-teaspoon of table salt into a small cup of warm water. This solution will help reduce swelling and should be done at the end of the 1st day and the beginning of the 2nd day when swelling is at its worst. Salt rinsing should be done once every 3 hours.
Keep your mouth clean. Brush twice daily.
Tongue piercing jewelry cleanliness is very important and can only be done by removal and brushing.
Ear, Eyebrow, Navel, Nipple, Nose
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt into a small disposable cup of warm water. Turn cup of salt water over entire piercing (navel/nipple), trapping the solution over the piercing for 1 to 2 minutes. Pour solution slowly over (eyebrow, nose and ear). This should be done no more than twice daily for 3-4 days after piercing.
After salt rinse clean thoroughly for 2-3 minutes with anti-bacterial soap. (Dial, Softsoap-pump style) Rinse thoroughly with clean water. This should be done twice daily until healed. Let piercing air dry if at all possible.
When piercing is dry, apply a thin coat of Bacitracin-zinc ointment at the entrance and exit of the piercing.
